ARQANA Autumn Sale – Day 1: top price of €480,000 for the Wild Card NEWLOOK

The Autumn Sale began on Monday with the day reserved for flat and National Hunt horses-in-training that saw 186 lots go under the hammer. At the end of the session, that was marked by several Australian, American, English and Irish purchases, nearly 81% of the horses offered changed hands for an average of €31,067, generating a turnover of €4,660,000.

Eagerly awaited in the ring, NEWLOOK (lot 443), that was offered as a Wild Card, was subject to interest from a lot of buyers around the ring. Unbeaten in his last three starts, the Carlos and Yann Lerner trained colt’s most recent success had come in the Prix Vulcain (L.) at Deauville. It was the Australian agent Jarred Magnabosco (Best Bloodstock) that had the final say at €480,000 for the three-year-old son of New Bay that has a current rating of 104. A half-brother to three black-type winners including Prix de Diane (Gr.1) placed LA PARISIENNE, he hails from the family of Listed scorer LA GUAPISIMA and Group winner GM HOPKINS.

“I clearly wasn’t the only one bidding and he was subject to a lot of interest from a number of Australian trainers,” said Jarred Magnabosco. “He was very impressive in his recent starts and hasn’t run a lot so should still be able to progress further. I think he has the profile to be a successful in Australia and can aim for the Caulfield Cup next year.”
